Spry Finance delighted to partner with Active Retirement Ireland to help older Irish people live a greater life in later life

We’re really pleased to announce that we’ve become partners with Active Retirement Ireland (ARI), the voluntary organisation for retired and semi-retired people comprising some 550 local associations with more than 24,000 members.

There’s obviously a perfect fit between Spry Finance’s purpose ‘To Champion of Later Life’ and ARI’s mission ‘to reach out to all older people to stop loneliness through friendship and support’. Our sponsorship will help enable ARI to improve its communication with its members and their local associations, enhance the central service it offers. Active Retirement Ireland will be actively encouraging new membership and the formation of new local associations, as well as driving advocacy on behalf of older Irish citizens.

Our Head of Marketing and Communications, Ailish McGlew, believes the work of ARI is vital to the requirements of an ageing Irish population, and echoes the way in which Spry Finance is a champion of living a greater life in later life.

Ailish said “We know that the absence of strong social supports in the form of loneliness and social isolation have been shown to be harmful to the wellbeing of older adults. We also know that the proportion of older adults in Ireland’s population is growing – 15% of the population is now over 65 and there will be 1 million over 60s by 2030.

“Our own research shows that older adults continue to be more likely to engage with ‘ageing well’ and that they believe that keeping mentally active, taking regular exercise and enjoying a healthy diet are the three best ways to achieve it. ARI, through its 550 local associations and its drive to establish new ones, is providing older people with the opportunity to age well and avoid loneliness and this is something we’re delighted to get behind.”

Fran Brennan, CEO of ARI, commented “This partnership with Spry Finance – while clearly a good fit thanks to their understanding of older people, their later lives and the opportunities and challenges that they face – will be of great benefit to the work we do.

“It will allow us to offer greater support to our members and their local groups, it will help us to expand and be able to provide more people who are retired and semi-retired with opportunities to get involved, and it will strengthen our national advocacy work championing the rights and interests of all older people in Ireland.”
