Sponsorship of Active Retirement Ireland
Active Retirement Ireland (ARI) is the voluntary organisation for retired and semi-retired people comprising some 550 local associations with more than 24,000 members. Active Retirement Ireland’s mission is ‘to reach out to all older people to stop loneliness through friendship and support’. At a national level, ARI aims:
- To promote older people as independent, self-organised and active members of their communities.
- To advocate for older people at a national level.
- To promote positive ageing attitudes in Ireland.
- To provide training, support and information to the local associations across nine regions.
- To network the associations for support, capacity building and information sharing.
It’s well understood that the absence of strong social supports in the form of loneliness and social isolation have been shown to be harmful to the wellbeing of older adults. It’s also recognised that Ireland’s population is growing older – 15% of the population is now over 65 and there will be 1 million over 60s by 2030.
The work of Active Retirement Ireland is vital to the requirements of an ageing Irish population, and echoes the way in which Spry is a champion of living a greater life in later life.
Spry is Delighted to Get Behind ARI
Our sponsorship will help enable Active Retirement Ireland to improve its communication with its members and their local associations, enhance the central service it offers.
Fran Brennan, CEO of ARI, said “The partnership with Spry Finance will allow us to offer greater support to our members and their local groups, it will help us to expand and be able to provide more people who are retired and semi-retired with opportunities to get involved, and it will strengthen our national advocacy work championing the rights and interests of all older people in Ireland.”
