Celebrating Positive Ageing – Spry’s Commitment in Action

Positive Ageing Week 2025 (Sept 26-Oct 3)

Each year, Positive Ageing Week brings communities across Ireland together to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions and potential of older people in Ireland. It encourages events at both the national and local levels that highlight how ageing can be a time of opportunity, connection, and continued growth.

Positive Ageing Week 2025 (Sept 29-Oct 3) invites individuals, organisations, and communities to host events, dialogues, performances, and initiatives that shift narratives about later life – to one of dignity, contribution, and inclusion.

At Spry Finance, we see Positive Ageing Week not just as a moment for celebration, but as a call to action. Below are five ways we are supporting positive ageing every week of the year – through partnership, programmes, and platforms that promote inclusion, purpose, and wellbeing in later life.

1 – Sponsorship of Active Retirement Ireland

A core partner in our mission is Active Retirement Ireland (ARI), an organisation dedicated to enriching the lives of older people through social, educational, cultural, and community-based opportunities. Their mission aligns squarely with the goals of Positive Ageing Week: to combat isolation, contest negative stereotypes, and foster active engagement in communities.

During Positive Ageing Week, ARI organises events, talks, and local gatherings that bring older people together with neighbours, families, and community groups – promoting intergenerational connection and reinforcing that later life is a time for engagement and possibility. Spry’s sponsorship ensures ARI can continue expanding reach and impact.

2 – Supporting the Age Friendly University at DCU

One of the strongest antidotes to ageism is education and lifelong learning. Spry’s support of the Age Friendly University (AFU) at DCU helps create pathways for older learners to stay curious, active, and socially engaged.

AFU students have shared their stories about returning to education and how it has enriched their lives, boosted confidence and sense of purpose, and helped them stay connected to society. The message is clear: learning is not confined by age – it’s a lifelong journey.

By supporting AFU, Spry helps challenge the notion that education is only for young people – and contributes to making higher education more accessible, responsive, and inclusive for older learners.

3 – Celebrating Carers through the HCCI Home Care Awards

We know ageing at home, with dignity, is a priority for many. Carers are the backbone of that possibility, offering care, companionship, and support so older people can remain connected and independent. That’s why Spry is proud to support the HCCI Home Care Awards, which recognise the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of carers throughout Ireland.

By spotlighting carers’ contributions, we help elevate public awareness of their vital role and foster greater appreciation for the care ecosystem that underpins positive ageing.

4 – Supporting The Guinness Choir

Music has the power to uplift, connect, and inspire – at any age. Spry Finance is delighted to support The Guinness Choir, a community of singers whose passion for music brings joy both to its members and to audiences nationwide.

For many in the choir, rehearsals and performances are about more than just music; they’re about friendship, belonging, and purpose. In our series of videos, members share what the choir means to them – from staying mentally sharp and socially engaged to experiencing the thrill of performing as part of a collective.

5 – The Spry Lifestyle Hub

At the heart of our work to support positive ageing is the Spry Lifestyle Hub, a digital space dedicated to resources, stories, and advice for living a greater life in later life. Whether it’s health & fitness, travel, mental wellbeing, or financial guidance, the Hub is designed to empower older people (and those approaching later life) to stay active, informed, and inspired.

Positive change

Positive Ageing Week 2025 offers more than a spotlight – it presents an opportunity to shift the narrative. Spry supports organisations and initiatives aligned with PAW’s aims because they reflect our commitment to change public attitudes around ageing, to break down ageism, and encourage intergenerational solidarity and respect.

As Positive Ageing Week 2025 unfolds, we invite you to engage – attend local events, share stories of ageing positively, and challenge assumptions. At Spry Finance, we are committed to walking this path together, celebrating life at every age.
